Ready To Adopt A New Pet?
Your participation in our adoption program helps unwanted animals find the love they deserve.
We would like every adoptable dog and cat in our community to have a permanent, responsible, and loving home.
Please understand that the SPCA reserves the right to deny the adoption of any animal.
The first step in adopting a companion is to complete an adoption application. By asking you to fill out the application and speaking with the Oromocto & Area SPCA staff, we are trying to help you find the best possible match between your lifestyle and your new companion.
You will be required to give your veterinarian's name for reference or equivalent. There is a standard 24-hour hold on all canine adoptions. If you currently own a dog and you wish to adopt another dog, you will be required to bring your other dogs to the shelter to get acquainted.
The Oromocto & Area SPCA's Adoption Philosophy
We do everything in our power to ensure that the animals we adopt out are healthy. Our staff checks every animal that comes into our shelter and most are given vaccinations prior to placement. We do not have a 'try out' period, so please ensure you are certain you are willing to commit to the animal for the animal's natural life.
While we do not offer a 'health guarantee' all animals do come with a 30-day pet insurance policy. For the safety and socialization of your new companion we require that the animal be in your home at night.
_______________________________________________________
We place animals that have "good social habits". No animal is knowingly placed who has a history of biting, viciousness or other adjustment problems. All dogs that come to our shelter (over the age of 6 months) are temperment evaluated using the MYM Safer test.
All of our cats (over the age of 9 months) are personality tested using the MYM Feline-ality through the ASPCA.

We want the relationship between you and your new companion to be a long and happy one. You may have questions or problems that come up after you bring your new companion home and we want you to know that we are always happy to help you solve them.
It will take some time for your new companion to become adjusted to a new home. The adjustment period can take as little as two weeks (or less) to several months. It is very important that you give your adopted companion adequate time to adjust to your environment and to go through the training process. Consistency, repetition, and lots of praise are important concepts to remember in training your companion.
